Associate Professor Bernard Chern is the Head and Senior Consultant of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

He graduated from the Medical School, National University of Singapore in 1987.  He obtained his specialist degrees from Royal College of Obstetrician & Gynaecologist of London, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and also Masters of Medicine from NUS, Singapore in 1994.  He was admitted as a Fellow of the Acadamy of Medicine of Singapore in 2004.  In 1996, he was awarded the HMDP MIS Fellowship with Professor Chris Sutton in the United Kingdom, and also with Dr C.Y. Liu at Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.

  • Member of Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) for Obstetrics and Gynaecology

  • President of Asia-Pacific Association of Gynecolgic Endoscopy (APAGE), 2009 - 2010

He is an active participant in the international circle of MIS Societies and has been an invited speaker at numerous scientific conferences and also attended numerous international scientific conferences including the AAGL, APAGE, AGES, ISGE, ESGE.

In addition, he has extensively published articles in peer-reviewed local and international journals.  He has been a regular invited speaker and surgical skill instructor at the various regional Asia-Pacific conferences/workshops.  In 2010, he successfully organised the 11th Annual Congress of APAGE in Singapore, which helped to bridge ties with the South East Asia countries with it’s other Asian counterparts.  In 2023, he was once again invited to host the APAGE Annual Congress in Singapore.
