Professor Michel Canis graduated from medical school in 1980. He went on to obtain his post-graduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1990 where he subspecialized in Reproductive Medicine and trained under Professor M.A. Bruhat for several years. He was also a research fellow in Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, under the mentorship of Dr Robert Schenken and completed his Medical Doctorate Thesis from Faculté de Clermont-Ferrand, France.

He was head of the department of Gynecologic Surgery in the CHU of Clermont-Ferrand from 2012 till 2018. He is currently on board of the management team of the Gynecologic Surgery Department.

Being a world renowned expert in his field, he has been an invited speaker to numerous international scientific conferences where he spoke about a wide range of topics from endometriosis to laparoscopic surgery in oncology patients. He has also been invited to perform live surgery in these congresses and workshops, where he frequently demonstrates laparoscopic techniques in tackling complex cases of endometriosis.

He has an extensive publications in peer- reviewed national and international journals. He has also written chapters in books relating to endometriosis and operative laparoscopy.  He is also a reviewer and editor for several scientific journals including Fertility and Sterility, Human Reproduction, Journal of Endometriosis and Gynecological Surgery.

He is actively involved in numerous international societies. These include European Society of Gynecologic Oncology (ESGO), European Association for Transluminal Surgery and World Endometriosis Society. He was also the international advisor of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) from 2003 to 2005 and was the Board of Director of AAGL representing Europe and Africa. He was elected as secretary Treasurer of AAGL in November 2021  and is currently the Vice President of AAGL.
